Subject: Market Update: Sharp Selloff Signals Transition Into Corrective Weekly Trend
Dear SPR Premium Subscribers,
On Friday, June 5, the U.S. stock market experienced a sharp decline following the release of a stronger-than-expected employment report. As Treasury yields surged in response to the data, expectations for near-term interest rate cuts declined rapidly.
This triggered aggressive profit-taking, particularly across AI and semiconductor-related stocks that had previously led the market’s strong rally. The resulting wave of selling pressure quickly spread across the broader market, leading to a significant market-wide decline.
The magnitude of this decline was substantially stronger than anticipated and reflected an abrupt shift in buying and selling dynamics. From a short-term perspective, the selling pressure intensified rapidly enough to push many equities into technically oversold conditions within a very short period of time.
Until last week, the market had continued to rally aggressively without entering a meaningful daily correction phase, largely supported by external optimism surrounding the potential signing of a ceasefire-related MOU between the United States and Iran. However, despite continued expectations, no agreement was finalized through this week. As a result, market volatility continued to expand before ultimately culminating in Friday’s sharp selloff.
Based on current conditions, the weekly trend structure has now decisively shifted into what we previously referred to as “Scenario 1” — a broader corrective trend environment.
Importantly, not only the daily trend structure, but also the weekly volatility profile now reflects significantly elevated instability. As a result, confidence in the short-term direction of buying and selling flows has weakened considerably at this stage.
Given these conditions, we believe it is important to remain cautious and closely monitor whether more reliable directional stability begins to emerge in the market. We will continue to provide timely updates as additional clarity develops regarding market conditions and trend reliability.
Thank you.
