Subject: Market Update: Nasdaq Enters Bearish Zone as Short-Term Outlook Shifts Lower
Dear SPR Premium Subscribers,
Today, the U.S. equity market experienced a broad-based selloff led by technology and AI semiconductor stocks, resulting in a significant deterioration in the near-term market outlook. Most notably, the Nasdaq has now entered the Bearish Zone, and based on the current buying and selling dynamics, the probability of additional downside extending into next Monday has increased meaningfully.
Importantly, we do not view today's decline as a typical pullback within an ongoing uptrend. Instead, the recent price action suggests that the market is transitioning from a temporary correction into the early stages of a new downward trend, driven by weakening buying momentum and a sharp acceleration in selling pressure.
As a result, even if intermittent technical rebounds occur over the coming sessions, they are likely to remain temporary in nature. Under current conditions, preserving capital and managing downside risk appears to be a more prudent strategy than aggressively adding new long positions before clearer signs of stabilization emerge.
Today's decline was driven by more than technical factors alone.
According to Wall Street commentary, the selloff was largely fueled by broad profit-taking across AI and semiconductor stocks, accompanied by a reassessment of elevated valuations following an extended rally. At the same time, geopolitical uncertainty intensified as expectations surrounding a ceasefire-related MOU between the United States and Iran continued to fade while military tensions escalated once again. Renewed concerns surrounding the Strait of Hormuz have also contributed to rising oil prices, reviving inflation fears and reducing investors' appetite for risk assets.
These developments have also materially affected our broader weekly outlook.
Over the past two weeks, the market had been attempting to transition from a corrective phase into a renewed weekly uptrend. However, the strength of today's selling pressure has significantly weakened that scenario, increasing the probability that the broader corrective trend will instead continue for a longer period than previously expected.
More importantly, the current weekly trend structure remains positioned near the boundary between the Bullish Zone and the Bearish Zone. Consequently, next week's market action will likely prove decisive. Should selling pressure persist into early next week, the probability of a confirmed transition into the Bearish Zone will increase substantially, raising the possibility that the market is entering not merely a short-term correction but the early stages of a broader intermediate-term downtrend.
At this stage, the bullish transition that the market had been attempting over the past two weeks appears to have lost considerable momentum. Broad profit-taking across the AI semiconductor sector, together with renewed geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran, have emerged as the primary catalysts behind this deterioration in market structure.
That said, our final assessment of the weekly trend will be made after Friday's market close. We will review the complete weekly data—including buying and selling flows, trend strength, and overall market structure—before providing an updated outlook and more detailed strategy for next week's trading environment.
